Thought this was a topic that deserved its own thread. Pet insurance is a tricky one. The one that gets pushed by vets atm seems to be Pet Plan. I think there are pros and cons to any insurance, having had lots of pets over the years.
I used to have cats and never had any insurance. Fortunately they never needed it. On the other hand I did have insurance for all my dogs. Only one of them needed it and I don’t know how I would’ve paid the bill without it. However, the down side is that, the insurance I had (through Sainsbury’s I think) only covered the same condition for twelve months then you were on your own. That worked for me as the initial diagnosis and treatment was the heavy end.
I’ve even known parts of the body be exempt. If a horse has even a slight injury to a leg, that leg is then exempt from cover. Sounds crazy but it’s true.
Some insurances give life cover but they are horrifically expensive. I actually don’t know what the answer is but you need a backup plan of some sort in case something serious happens. You also need to read the small print very carefully.
Vet fees are just off the planet. One of the ‘problems’ is vets can do so much that they couldn’t do before and that comes at a cost.
I suppose the same could be said for treatment on the NHS. Maybe they should start giving out invoices saying ‘This is what your treatment cost. You’re welcome, NHS’.
Yes, they always seem to recommend Pet Plan but it's horrendously expensive 🫣
